Disney Buys the Muppets

Disney and The Jim Henson company announced today that Disney will acquire the properties of The Muppets and Bear in the Big Blue House. The deal will ulitmately take about two months to finalize, but both companys are excited about the deal.

Brian Henson stated that this was his father Jim Henson’s dream come true, especially since Jim tried to persue this same type of deal before his death in 1990. Brian feels very passionate about this deal and was quoted saying, “This new and very important relationship will enable our two companies to combine our respective talents and resources in ways that will fully realize the tremendous potential of the Muppet and Bear franchises. Michael Eisner’s long-standing passion and respect for the Muppets gives me and my family even more confidence in Disney as a partner.”

I don’t think Brian fully realizes that Disney might currently be in trouble and in the beginnings of a hostile takeover situation from Comcast.
