Golden Globe Nominations

On Monday December 12th Kate Beckinsale, Steve Carell and Mark Wahlberg
announced the nominations for the 63rd annual Golden Globe Awards. The
nominations are choosen and then voted on by the Hollywood Foreign
Press Association (HFPA). The show is set to air on Monday January
16th. The Golden Globes usually foreshadow some activity that will take
place on Oscar Sunday in February. This year, like years past, the
independent films appear to be at the top of the list. This is usually
more true for the Golden Globes because of its focus on performance
versus technical or visual accomplishments.

For film, “Brokeback Mountain” is the most nominated with seven,
ranging from Best Picture-Drama all the way to Best Song. Heath Ledger
even gets a nod for playing a gay cowboy who is trying to discover
himself. George Clooney’s “Good Night, and Good Luck” is nominated for
four awards, including a Best Director nod for Clooney…this is his
first of this type.

As far as television goes, “Desperate
Housewives” continues to dominate with five nominations, four of which
are for the four leading ladies. This year the television categories
see a whole lot of new faces and new showes. The old stand by shows,
“Law and Order”, “er”, and “West Wing” appear to be left out. This
could mean that everyone is becoming bored with these long running
shows and craving the new blood and enthusiasm for shows like “Lost”
and “Commander in Chief.”

Here is the complete list of nominations.
