Star Wars DVD News

Well, ewoks and droids anyway. The 35th annual San Diego Comic-Con came to an end yesterday and the biggest news, at least to this geek, was not of a comic, but of a movie. Or rather THE movie. Team Star Wars was present and and more than contributed to the fanfare of the convention with announcements and goodies up the ying yang. Our info comes from ComingSoon.net (kudos on their new look) who were greeted by LucasFilm, along with 6,700 others, with news of DVD’s and Episode III.

Besides the official name of Episode 3 being announced, Lucasfilm head of relations, Steve Sansweet, foretold the coming of two short lived animated series making their way to DVD. Some might recall the Droids saturday morning cartoon series that featured the cartoony likeness and adventures of C3-PO and R2-D2. Others may have short, but fond memmories of Wicket and Princess Kneesa in their adventures among the giant redwoods of Endor. Both animated series should be available soon in their entirety.

Also coming to DVD are two television movies aired in the late 80’s that feature the Ewoks and human protaganists. None, unfortunately have any other Star Wars character.

Even though there isn’t much more than fluff to these discs, fans like myself are still looking forward to them. One comment to 20th Century Fox and Lucasfilm: Thank you for your continued diligence at bringing more and more of the Lucas archive to consumer hands, but for the love of all that is good and holy, BEAT, BURN and BURY the holiday special before it’s too late.
