Miami Vice

Miami Vice almost single handedly set the tone for the 1980’s in the US. The cars, the sunglasses, the music and sports coats. The show made Don Johnson a household name and made it okay to go to work with 5 o’clock shadow. Michael Mann’s cop show was just plain cool. Michael Mann’s cop movie of the same name is just plain boring.

Without a single opening credit, Miami Vice opens with the thumping techno noise inside one of Florida’s most popular night clubs. Colin Farrell as Sonny Crocket stands out like a sore thumb in the crowd of dancers, ironically enough since he’s supposed to be undercover. The movie plays out as Crocket and Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx as his partner Tubbs go deep undercover as drug transporters in order to stop the top dog of an international narcotics ring, Arc
