Into the Pixel Art Exhibit 2005

For the second year in a row at E3, Into the Pixel will exhibit sixteen
works of art related to upcoming video games. Star Wars Geek and I got
a sneak preview of the art as well as the chance to attend a juror
panel discussion last night at LACMA. It was an interesting evening and
the art, as you can see, is pretty amazing. The digital age sure seems
to be taking over and art is definetly being influenced by it as well
as life around us.

The jurors contained six different people that revolve around the art
and video games world. It was an even mix between the two which really
added to the discussion last night. We were able to see not only the
art perspective, but also what the video game developers had to say
about the different concepts. Most of the pieces were created by
photoshop or some other computer generated program, which really shows
how far we have come in this age.

This year Into the Pixel
saw a 35% increase in the amount of submissions as well as an increase
in the quality of the work. This is a nice increase considering this is
only the second year of the contest and appreciation of the art.

At the beginning of the panel discussion the lead juror, Kevin Salatino
a curator from LACMA, opened with a speech on how life, games and art
are all beginning to flow into one and influence eachother. It was a
great speech and really showed the idea of a new art form emerging, but
one that will more then likely not be one that is collected in final
form. Rather people will collect more of the concept and development
pieces. This says a lot for the different types of art that have
progressed through the ages.

You can see all sixteen pieces
showcased at the main entrance to E3 at the Los Angeles Convention
Center from May 18-20. All sixteen images are also placed here for you.

Don’t forget that E3 is only two weeks away and you will be seeing a
lot of new information and news from us as we get closer with regards
to the video gaming world.
