Wii Fit Plus at E3 2009

I was a huge fan of the original Wii Fit, but once I unlocked and more or less mastered all the different exercises, it no longer got much use. So, to see a new Wii Fit, called Wii Fit Plus, with all new exercises was certainly exciting.

They had nine different exercises for demo purposes, all of which fell into the balance/aerobics categories. I had the pleasure of trying one game where my Mii was dressed in a giant bird suit and, while standing on the balance board, I had to flap my arms while leaning in the direction I wanted to fly. It wasn’t terribly exhausting, since the slower you flapped, the higher and farther you seemed to go (yes, very counter-intuitive), and I made it to the end of the course with no problem.

I also had a chance to try the Obstacle Course, which was very reminiscent of Tight Rope Walking in the original game. You simply step in place on the balance board, stopping to avoid swinging bowling balls or speeding up to make it to moving platforms. Also not terribly energetic, but it was kind of fun, and I liked watching my Mii get slammed by a bowling ball and go flying.

Overall, it wasn’t anything terribly exciting, but it wasn’t awful either. A new set of games to get me to exercise is never a bad thing, after all.
