Down with the Dual Shock?

Even for Sony, $90.7 million is a big wad o’ cash, but the U.S.
District Court ruled this morning that Sony pony up that amount at the
conclusion of their patent infringment suit.

Damages are to be paid to Immersion Corp., the company behind said
patent. Sony Computer Entertainment has been ordered to stop selling
their Playstation and PS2 systems with the familiar Dual Shock
controllers as well as certain software packages that included the
controls.

Not surprising, Sony filed an injunction likely to
give them more time to file an appeal or strike some sort of deal with
Immersion to continue using the controls. The judge stayed the
injunction, so the units will remain in stores for now.
