PSP Launch Date Announced
Early this morning, Sony Computer Entertainment of America announced
the first of what may be several packaged options for their premiere
portable unit. The PSP will be available in the U.S. beginning March
24th at a $249 price point, considerably higher than any full consoles
currently on the market.
The package at this price point,
titled the PSP Value Pack, will include the PSP unit itself, a 32mb
memory sticl, headphones, remote control, battery pack, AC adapter,
soft care and cleaning cloth, a media sampler UMD disc and the first
one million sold in the US will be packaged with the feature film
SpiderMan 2. Though an actual playable game is not included, the
package seems like a decent deal. Games for the PSP are expected to
sell at around the same retail price as standard PS2 games, $40 – $50
U.S. retail.
The PSP sports several unique features. A
4.3-inch, 16:9 wide screen TFT LCD that displays full color (16.77
million colors) with a hi res (for a portable) 480 x 272 screen.
Built-in stereo speakers, headphone connector, USB 2.0, and 802.11b
(Wi-Fi) wireless networking capabilities round off the huge list of
abilities. Future possibilites could lead to the downloading of
software and/or updates to the unit using wireless and the memory stick
storage capabilities.
