The Rind Leading the Blind

I know apples don’t have a rind, but Apple Computers introduced an accesibility feature for their OS X operating system, dubbed Spoken Interface, that would open the eyes of the visually impaired to the computing world.

The software to be included as part of the operating system will use sound cues and spoken dialogue to describe the orientation of the mouse to icons and program menus on-screen. It’s real effectiveness is still a bit questionable, since plenty of third party developers have offered similar solutions. Apple says their SI is different in that its part of the OS, making it immediately availbale and considerably more cost effective to those customers likely to use the product.
