New Empire At War Screens

LucasArts’ upcoming RTS for the PC, Empire At War, will be the
publisher’s third attempt at apply the Star Wars universe to the real
time strategy genre. It’s first attempt, Force Commander, was dismal to
say the least. Fortunately, the followed up with Galactic Battlegrounds
that played off of the Age of Empire series of games and led to a much
more enjoyable gameplay experience.

New for 2005 comes Empire At War a gorgeous looking RTS that will be
one of two things: A) a pretty but half-assed attempt to tie into the
Revenge of the Sith film due out in May or B) a title to rival any
decent RTS released in the last few years. The game engine was down
out-of-house by Las Vegas based Petroglyph whose team consists mainly
of the developers behind the Command & Conquer, Civilization and
Lord of the Rings games.

The game promises a single player campaing, dual player Rebel Vs Empire
mode and an online 8 player skirmish mode. Not only will players take
up offensive on the and above the ground but for the first time they
can try their fleet skills in space.
