Political Unrest

Why is it that most people in this country will grant you all of the
freedoms that come from living here, simply being American, until you
mention that you don’t vote? A BIG part of the grand freedoms we
celebrate are based on fundamental choices. Ultimately, I believe that
United States elections in their current state are largely a facade.
Gradually faked over several decades to fool the public into believing
they have a say in how this country is run. I believe it wasn’t always
like this, and I hope someday it will go back to being a true
democracy. No one can truly deny politicians aren’t corrupt. I take it
a step further and say the process is corrupt, but changing it in one
step would strike a deathblow to the nation.

I don’t go to the polls when it comes time. I exercise my freedom and
CHOOSE to not cast that ballot, until such a time as I believe the
system has changed for the better. Unfortunately that singles me out.
Suddenly, I don’t have the freedom of speech to criticize the
politicians because I didn’t bother to drop off a form saying who I
thought should be there. The old addage comes up: “you didn’t vote, so
you have no right to complain”. I hate that saying with a passion. It’s
ridiculous, makes no sense. It’s a sentance people use because they
can’t find any other way to back up their opinions when it comes to
politics. Comedian/Satirist George Carlin puts it in a way that says it
better than anyone:

I believe if you vote, you have no
right to complain. People like to twist that around
