Original He-Man Coming to DVD

BCI Eclipse LLC and a U.K. media company will be putting all 130
episodes of the original Filmation series from the early eighties. The
first two-disc set will debut at the San Diego ComicCon 7/12/2005 with
a 10 epsiode Collector’s Edition. Considering the first season is made
up of about 65 episodes, my guess is that it’s a Best of… to get the
ball rolling.

With BCI releasing one of the most requested TV shows be put to DVD,
they promised they are putting a lot of work into the releases. BCI
Senior Vice President Greg Glass stated “We have not only acquired the
rights to this classic ’80s, iconic animation series, but have spent
many hours interviewing virtually all of the key players in the
creation and production of the series. The initial Collector’s Edition
is just the beginning of what HE-MAN fans will see over the course of
the next 18 months.”

The Best of… set will feature five of the best episodes from both seasons, chosen by gathering of fans that voted at He-Man.org.
The each disc will include documentary interviews with a multitude of
people ranging from writers to the artists, as well as much, much more.

It’s not clear wether the two seasons will be released in two seperate
box sets or wether the 65 episode seasons will be cut up into smaller
volumes. Either way, the children of the 80’s are now adults and will
be happy to see the full seasons put to DVD with care & dedication.

Hopefully the John Woo directed, male model starred, live action adaptation
will be killed in it’s tracks. I kid you not. Last thing I want to see
is Teela or Man-at-Arms jumping sideways in slow motion, with dual
blasters, into a flock of doves.
