Sony to Delay PSP…again?

According to Bobby Kotick, Activision’s CEO, he expects the
PlayStation Portable to be delayed beyond the last announcement made by
Sony.

Although never set in stone, Sony announced plans to
begin shipping the units 1st quarter of 2005. This itself was a delay
from the previously stated holiday season 2004 initially promised for
the highly anticipated competition expected to rival Nintendo’s GameBoy
product line.

Sony claims they’ve never given word of such a
delay. “We have not discussed or given any indication that an
adjustment to the PSP launch window is on the horizon,” said Molly
Smith, director of public relations for Sony Computer Entertainment
America.

Those pesky analysts at American Technology Research
started it all though. According to P.J. McNeely: “We have maintained
that it has been at best a 50-50 proposition that Sony will make its
scheduled holiday 2004 Japan launch, and any delay in the Japan launch
would likely push the North American launch out of the March quarter.”

So…June then? Maybe. Only time, and more press releases, will tell.
